What is Epoch Glacial Marine Mud?
The Epoch® Glacial Marine Mud is one of the longest-running products in the Nu Skin range — a mud mask that people keep reordering for years, which is not something you can say about most masks.
Nu Skin's own description: "This skin renewing estuary treasure helps exfoliate dead skin cells, remove skin contaminants, and rejuvenate damaged or troubled skin."
The printed benefit bullets, word for word:
- "Emulsifies to make oily particles easier to remove"
- "50+ minerals and trace elements"
- "Softens, purifies, and helps hydrate skin"
That is the complete claim set. The mineral count is Nu Skin's own figure, not ours — among them copper, zinc, magnesium, silver and chromium.
How to Use It — the Directions People Get Wrong
Nu Skin's directions, verbatim: "Apply a generous layer of mud to skin, avoiding mouth and eye areas. Let mud dry 15 to 20 minutes or until it turns a light aquamarine color. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Use Epoch® Glacial Marine Mud™ two to three times a week."
Two details in there are worth pulling out, because plenty of guides — including an earlier version of this page — get them wrong:
- Fifteen to twenty minutes, not ten. The colour change to a light aquamarine is the cue, which is more useful than a timer.
- Two to three times a week. Not once. If you have been treating it as an occasional treat, you have been using it less than Nu Skin intends.
Rinse with warm water rather than scrubbing it off. Follow with your serum and moisturiser while skin is still slightly damp.
Who It Suits
- Oily or congested skin — the emulsifying line is the one that matters here, and it is Nu Skin's own.
- Anyone who wants one thing that does a lot — it is a mask rather than a routine, and it does not need a device or a matched product to work.
- People building up slowly. At two or three times a week it sits alongside whatever cleanser you already use rather than replacing anything.
Who Should Look Elsewhere
- Very dry or reactive skin. A drying mud mask two or three times a week is a lot. Try once a week first and see how your skin takes it.
