The short answer: they are not rivals. ProBio PCC is a live probiotic — it adds one specific bacterial strain to your gut. Nu Biome is a prebiotic and postbiotic drink — it feeds and supports the bacteria you already have. If your interest is immune support and you want live organisms, ProBio PCC is the one. If your complaint is bloating and discomfort after meals, Nu Biome is the one Nu Skin points at. Buying both is defensible. Buying one because you think it replaces the other is not.

The one difference that decides it
Everything else follows from this, so it is worth being slow about.
A probiotic is live bacteria. You swallow organisms, they survive the journey, and they take up residence. ProBio PCC is a probiotic. Nu Skin's own product page is unambiguous: "Pharmanex® ProBio PCC contains 2 billion live organisms of the potent probiotic bacteria culture of Lactobacillus Fermentum PCC." One strain, one dose, stated on the label as "Lactobacillus fermentum PCC - 2 billion CFU".
A prebiotic is food for bacteria. A postbiotic is the useful compounds bacteria produce, supplied directly rather than grown. Nu Biome is both, and neither is alive. Nu Skin's listed key ingredients are XOS (Xylooligosaccharides), Heat-Treated Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. Lactis, and Pomegranate Extract. Note "heat-treated" — that is the giveaway. Heat-treating kills the bacteria on purpose. Nu Skin describes the product as "the dual-action pre- and postbiotic power of Pharmanex® Nu Biome®".
So one adds passengers. The other stocks the larder. Asking which is better is like asking whether a seed or a bag of fertiliser is better — it depends entirely on what is already in the ground.
What Nu Skin actually claims for ProBio PCC
On its US product page, Nu Skin prints the strain and the count and little else. On its own US editorial pages the company goes further, and these are its words, not ours:
- "Lactobacillus fermentum PCC strain, or what we call ProBio PCC, is proven in multiple preclinical and clinical studies."
- "Supports a protective immune response."
- "Encourages probiotic bacteria in the lower digestive tract."
- "Intended for those who experience GI discomfort."
- "Can survive the acidic environment of the stomach."
That last one matters more than it sounds. Stomach acid is where most probiotics die, and survival is the difference between a supplement that works and an expensive way to swallow dead bacteria. Nu Skin's closing line on the subject is worth repeating, because it argues against casual probiotic buying generally: "The bottom line is not all probiotics are equal. Don't just take any probiotic, get the right probiotic for you."
Directions are simple: "As a dietary supplement, take one (1) capsule daily with food. Use continuously for optimal results." Note "continuously" — this is not a course you finish.
What Nu Skin actually claims for Nu Biome
Nu Biome has the longer printed claim list of the two. Again, Nu Skin's wording:
- "Reduction in bloating and digestive discomfort related to food intake."
- "Helps provide continual improvement in bloating relief when used consistently."
- "Supports a reduction in waist circumference, related to bloating."
- "Helps harness the benefits of a healthy microbiome through a dual approach using pre- and postbiotics."
- "Supports a healthy balance of good and bad bacteria for improved intestinal health."
- "Helps maintain healthy digestion."
- "Supports your body's important antioxidant network."
Read that list again and notice how much of it is about bloating. Four of the seven bullets touch it. That is not an accident of drafting — it is where Nu Skin has chosen to plant the product. If bloating is not your problem, you are buying a lot of claim you will not use.
The waist-circumference line is the one most often misread. It is scoped: "related to bloating". It is not a weight-loss claim and should not be read as one.
Directions: "Mix one stick pack with 8–12 oz of water or your favorite beverage. Enjoy once daily." The box holds 30 stick packs of 2.19 g each. Nu Skin lists two options — Pharmanex® Nu Biome® Watermelon Raspberry Lemon, and Pharmanex® Nu Biome® Coconut Pineapple Caffeine Free — so if caffeine is something you avoid, the caffeine-free version is the one to order.

Which one should you buy?
Buy Nu Biome if your complaint is bloating. Specifically the kind that arrives after eating and eases between meals. That is the one problem Nu Skin has aimed this product squarely at, and it is the clearest match between a symptom and a printed claim in the whole Pharmanex range.
Buy ProBio PCC if you want live bacteria and immune support. If you have read about strain-specific probiotics and want a single identified strain at a stated count rather than a scattergun blend, this is that. It is also the cheaper of the two, and the easier to take — a capsule needs no water, no mixing, and no flavour you have to tolerate.
Buy neither first if you have not changed anything else. Fibre, water, sleep and how fast you eat move digestion more than either of these will, and they cost nothing. A supplement is a reasonable addition to that. It is a poor substitute for it.
Can you take both?
Nothing in Nu Skin's printed directions for either product says otherwise — one is a capsule with food, the other a drink once daily, and they work on different mechanisms. That said, taking both means $135.00 a month, and it makes it impossible to tell which one did anything. If you are going to try both, our honest advice is to run one for a stretch, then the other, rather than starting them together on the same Monday.
What we do not know
We would rather say this plainly than pad the page.
- We cannot tell you how long either takes to work. Nu Skin does not print a timeframe on the US pages for either product, and we are not going to invent one. Anyone quoting you "four to eight weeks" for these is guessing.
- We cannot tell you whether they work better together. There is no published head-to-head or combination study we can point you to.
- We cannot promise either will help you specifically. Gut microbiomes differ enormously between people. That is genuinely why results vary, not a hedge.
Frequently asked questions
Is Nu Biome a probiotic? No. It is a prebiotic and postbiotic. The bacterial ingredient in it is heat-treated, which means it is not alive. If you specifically want live probiotic organisms, ProBio PCC is the Pharmanex product that has them.
Does ProBio PCC need refrigerating? Nu Skin's storage instruction is to store in a cool, dry place and refrigerate after opening.
Is there a caffeine-free Nu Biome? Yes. Nu Skin lists Pharmanex® Nu Biome® Coconut Pineapple Caffeine Free, and NuBodyRx stocks it at $79.00, with a three-pack at $221.00.
Which is better value? ProBio PCC costs less per day. Whether it is better value depends entirely on whether immune support or bloating relief is what you actually came for.
Where should I buy them? NuBodyRx sells 100% authentic Nu Skin products with no membership required, free US shipping on orders over $99, and ninety days to change your mind, opened or not.
