About ageLOC Technology
What is ageLOC technology?
ageLOC is Nu Skin's proprietary anti-aging technology platform. It targets Youth Gene Clusters (YGCs), which Nu Skin defines as “functional groups of genes that regulate how we appear to age.” Alongside them Nu Skin describes arSuperMarkers — “age-related super markers” — as the “internal sources of aging that contribute to an aging appearance.” ageLOC formulations are built to target those sources rather than the visible signs alone.
What is the research behind ageLOC?
The platform grew out of Nu Skin's collaboration with LifeGen Technologies, which Nu Skin describes as “leveraging LifeGen's proprietary methods regarding gene expression profiling and pathways affected by aging.” Nu Skin says LifeGen “was co-founded by Richard Weindruch, Ph.D., and Tomas Prolla, Ph.D., professors at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and leaders in the fields of gerontology and genetics,” who have “published over 200 scientific papers and books on aging and caloric restriction,” work resting on “30 years of research.” Nu Skin says it has invested “millions of dollars in development.”
What are Youth Gene Clusters (YGCs)?
In Nu Skin's own words, Youth Gene Clusters are “functional groups of genes that regulate how we appear to age.” ageLOC products are formulated to target them.
How is ageLOC different from other anti-aging approaches?
Most anti-aging products work on the visible signs of aging — wrinkles, dullness, loss of firmness — through topical ingredients like retinol, peptides or antioxidants. Nu Skin positions ageLOC at the arSuperMarkers instead: the “internal sources of aging that contribute to an aging appearance.” It is a different starting point, not a replacement for a good routine.

What is the difference between the LumiSpa iO and the RenuSpa iO?
They do different jobs and are not alternatives to each other. Nu Skin says the LumiSpa iO “both treats and cleanses skin through its patented Micropulse Oscillation Technology” — two minutes, twice a day. The RenuSpa iO uses Adaptive Microcurrent Technology and, in Nu Skin's words, “visibly depuffs, contours, tones, and sculpts and reduces the appearance of dimples through skin stimulation”; Nu Skin's directions are 3 to 5 times weekly per area, up to 5 minutes per body area, and specifically not daily. What is the difference between ageLOC Youth and ageLOC R2?
ageLOC Youth is a single daily formula, which Nu Skin calls “a revolutionary supplement built on over a decade of research, formulated to help revitalize your body's natural aging defense mechanisms and promote your youth span.”* ageLOC R2 is a two-part day-and-night system which Nu Skin says “targets YGCs related to cellular purification and cellular energy” — with R2 Night, in Nu Skin's words, optimising “each cell's natural purification process.”*
Can I use multiple ageLOC products together?
Yes. ageLOC products are designed to work together. Many people combine the LumiSpa iO, ageLOC Youth and ageLOC skincare.
Results & Expectations
How long does it take to see results from ageLOC products?
For the LumiSpa iO, Nu Skin's own promise is “results you can feel — instantly”: “in just two minutes, twice a day, you'll achieve instant results.” For supplements, the honest answer is months rather than weeks, and it varies from person to person. All of it depends on consistency — used occasionally, none of it works as intended. Individual results vary, which is why you have 90 days to send anything back.
Are ageLOC results permanent?
ageLOC products are designed for continued use. Like any skincare or supplement routine, results are maintained by keeping it up.
What results can I realistically expect from ageLOC Youth?
Nu Skin lists these benefits for ageLOC Youth: promotes youthfulness; supports DNA damage protection and repair; supports healthy brain structure and function; supports normal blood glucose control and normal glucose metabolism; supports bone structure and integrity; promotes healthy joint fluidity; supports healthy eye composition and protection; promotes healthy immune function and response.* Individual results vary.

Are ageLOC products safe?
ageLOC nutritional supplements are manufactured under Pharmanex's 6S Quality Process, whose Safety step Nu Skin describes as adhering “to high product safety standards by reviewing scientific literature and conducting standard safety studies.” Follow the directions supplied with any product, and stop if you experience irritation.
Are there any side effects from ageLOC supplements?
ageLOC supplements are generally well-tolerated. As with any nutritional supplement, some individuals may experience mild digestive adjustment during the first few days. If you have existing health conditions, take prescription medications, or are pregnant or nursing, consult your healthcare provider before starting any new supplement.
Can I use ageLOC products if I have sensitive skin?
