One summer routine does not fit everyone. Skin type decides which textures will behave in the heat and which will sit on your face all day. Here is a routine for each, built from what we stock.
Oily skin in summer
Heat means more oil, and summer is the hardest season for oily skin. The aim is to manage shine without stripping, because stripped skin makes more oil, not less.
Morning
- Cleanse with Nutricentials® To Be Clear Pure Cleansing Gel
- Follow with Nutricentials® In Balance pH Balance Toner
- Moisturize with Nutricentials® Thirst Fix Hydrating Gel Cream, an oil-free gel-cream
- Finish with Nutricentials® Day Dream Protective Cream SPF 35
Evening
- Double cleanse if you have worn makeup or sunscreen all day
- Apply a Nutricentials® Pump concentrate to damp skin
- Finish with Nutricentials® Pillow Glow overnight
Dry skin in summer
Air conditioning is as drying as the sun, and between them summer is harder on dry skin than people expect. Lean on richer textures rather than more layers.
Morning
- Cleanse with Nutricentials® Hydra Clean Creamy Cleansing Lotion
- Apply a Nutricentials Pump concentrate to damp skin
- Moisturize with Dew All Day Bioadaptive Moisture Restore Cream
- Finish with Day Dream Protective Cream SPF 35
Evening
- Cleanse gently with the Creamy Cleansing Lotion
- Apply Celltrex Always Right Recovery Fluid
- Finish with Nutricentials® Moisturize Me Intense Hydrating Cream
Combination skin in summer
An oilier T-zone and drier cheeks is the most common skin there is, and the trick is picking textures light enough for the middle of your face and kind enough for the edges.
Morning
- Cleanse with To Be Clear Pure Cleansing Gel
- Apply a Nutricentials Pump concentrate all over
- Use Thirst Fix Gel Cream on the whole face — light enough for the T-zone, enough for the cheeks in summer
- Finish with Day Dream Protective Cream SPF 35
Evening
- Cleanse thoroughly to get the sunscreen off
- Apply Celltrex Recovery Fluid
- Finish with Pillow Glow
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I work out my skin type?
Wash with a gentle cleanser and leave your face alone for an hour. Tight and flaky is dry. Shiny all over is oily. Shiny in the T-zone and normal or dry on the cheeks is combination.
Can my skin type change in summer?
It can certainly behave differently. Plenty of people find their skin turns oilier in heat and humidity, which is a good reason to treat a routine as seasonal rather than permanent.
Should I use a toner in summer?
If you like one, yes. A toner is a comfortable extra step after cleansing rather than a required one, and we are not going to tell you it changes how the rest of your routine absorbs.
